    WoW or Final Fantasy 14
    Started playing WoW and tried out Arena for the first time. PvP in WoW is pretty fun, I got 1850 rating after about 20 games with a Priest partner in 2v2 bracket. Is kinda like Ranger + White Mage combo in FFXI, pretty strong IMO. Been really fun and I can see myself playing just PvP in WoW...

    But now the big announcement from SE. A new MMO. @_______@..... I dunno, I don't feel confident in SE after getting my acct hacked.

    We
    shall
    see....

    Regarding mob AI, I think...

    1) Magic takes priority over TP moves if both are available.

    2) Not counting Chainspell or Manafont, mobs will only use magic after a specific amount of time. Thus if you are a stunner looking to stun -gaIII and the mob just used IV, you are wasting time because there is a considerable amount of downtime before a mob decides to cast. You only have to pay attention when the 'magic timer' is back up, thus a RDM/DRK can have way more duties than only "stun"

    3) All mobs now de-aggro over time non NM and NMs. If you do not perform an aggro action on the mob and the mob is too far to perform an aggro action on you over a certain amount of time, it will simply de-aggro and begin to regen. This can happen mid-cast during spells and right in front of your face. (note: The behavior of Wamoura Prince's however is different than what I am talking about.)

    Usually I just follow these rule when kiting. For example I can control Kirin every step of the way, I can control his path and I can stutter kite him so that melees will almost always be in range to hit. If it wasn't for his Regen, he's soloable by a skilled rdm/nin (minus the summons of course).

    For Gration, i can predict exactly when he's going to do what. I can force him to cast magic when I want. I can force him to do a TP move when I want. I know exactly when it is safe to shoot a WS when he's running for me with magic timers down and TP X. I'm down to 2hrs now using a pretty high delay / dmg wep (ebow) so this understanding is absolutely needed to avoid the 3-4 hr fights.

    The power of soloing is the combination of being able to enhance your character through gears and macros as well as fully understanding what it is you are fighting, but the above is just some guidelines I follow.

    The ancient Vessel for CoP, kiting is not a prob even with no experience, just the knowledge that it's magic is on a timer. Olla? Just pop a poison pot and follow the same rules. Almost any pot is soloable by RNG, and generally since Pots spawn in rooms with other pots, RNG is ideal since it's melee only.

    Ugg Pendant? Knock off it's HP between casts and run right before it is about to use magic (which is like every 10 sec) to avoid (death). I believe though that DRK/NIN is actually the best soloer for the tonberry after watching Drain II consistently do more than my sidewinder (and way faster cast than trying to do ranged attk)... drk can control how much TP is given with drain and then abs-TP it back for some nice WS.

    There are of course many other little things like why it's better to put your /assist or /scan macro on Ctrl1-Ctrl5 / Alt1-Alt5, how you move your camera, and more... but save that for another time since PoL is almost finished. I hope I gave out some helpful tips for those attempting solos

    POL needs to update faster before I post more stuff

    Meeting FF Friends in real life
    I'm going to meet 2 of the best friends I have made in FFXI... Kaamaan and Forrest, legends on Odin to this day, exceptional skill level probably in every game. I've known them only in game since 2004 and we spent many many hundreds of hours leveling together and fighting NMs. They used to live in US, then moved to HK. I happen to be on business trip in HK. HK has this thing called Easter Holiday, which is 5 days break basically. Ivanchu will be there too, so it's like a UnitedBBQ reunion...

    This is going to be very funny b/c

    a) I don't know their names, I guess we will just call each other by FFXI name? lol...
    b) are we gonna use FFXI-speak when we talk? How do I say "w" in english?
    c) I have never heard them over the mic on Ventrilo before, but I have an idea what they look like
    d) What are we gonna do? play videogames, eat BBQ? what?
    e) do they know that I am not a woman?? jk...

    Sometime next week they will be taking the Airship from Macau to Hong Kong Island. I will need to find chocobo stables in advance and meet them at the tavern and maybe have some yagudo drinks. For dinner BBQ meat mithkabobs, or perhaps squid sushi?

    Has anyone ever met a friend they made in FFXI and met for the first time just b/c you know them in the game?

    RNG retired for good
    I've decided to hang my ranger up. I've concluded there is nothing in this game I can do that is more technically difficult as the gration solo, probably on any job. In my opinion I've reached the pinnacle of what can be accomplished with RNG solo, and have done all the things a RNG could do in a group. From the switch-target self-renkei on HNMs using the environment mobs as full barrage TP insurance to the 3RNG suzaku tanking. There is really nothing else for me on this job. It was fun, but at times you come to realize, for example, you'll never fulfill your dream of soloing Kirin, since he has some mad regen, but it is possible to take no damage for hours as well. There is only one item that would make me even think about touching RNG again, and that's Kraken Club for merits. Otherwise, it's a dead issue.

    NIN - well, it's really become my merit whore as of late. I'm slowly gearing it up for HNM and will probably go /drk once I get the proper gear. It's a powerful job. As NIN/whatever, I can solo just about any HNM within 5 levels with nothing but ninjitsu.

    BLM - wow this job is growing on me lately. I love nuking the shit out of mobs and not having to pay a dime. Also, I am collecting some nice mage gear so soon I'll show some sexy and crazy BLM/RDM and BLM/NIN solos (hopefully before summer). I am really hoping to get my hands on a pair of gaiters though, they make BLM damn near unstoppable.

    Currently I'm also lvling RDM, this will be my main job after I'm done getting it to 75. I am hoping to show multiple-HNM solos (as in 1rdm vs 2-3 HNMs in a zone) once I get the proper gear, so stay tuned!

    Gration (flawless solo) - and the thieves that almost fked it up
    been playing around with gration lately solo on my rng/nin, I pretty much figured out everything about this mob to the point I believed I could get it from 100% > 0% solo without letting it regen and w/o taking even 1 point of damage. Today i woke up feeling good about myself after putting a couple merits into ranged attack delay and decided to give it a shot.

    From 100% to 10% it was smooth sailing (here's some screenies):

    several people wander by during this whole time and 1 stops to watch me and follow around. His name is "Mattthemaster" - i have no idea who this noob is, but he just follows on gration, makes me a big nervous that he might steal it. Gration is easy to steal esp when rng/nin solo b/c you can't keep it red entire time for various reasons. Sure enough, this fker calls his friends in LS and steals it at around 10%:

    I call GM anyways but 23 callers b4 me, hopefully Gm shows up b4 they kill Gration and gives it back to me.. After like 30min they get it down to 8% and i'm just making fun of them now in /tells. I didn't really get mad, they were just shitty players like most people who think stealing an NM is cool.

    Sure enough at 1% they get overzealous they all run in to WS gration and do Mijin Gakure. I'm right next to them and gration casts thundagaIII, it hits all of them + me. I recast :ni, they don't, then "Grand Slam" and they wipe =P

    I take gration at the last 1% and calmly kill with a sidewinder:

    Took photos of the dead right after:

    GM arrives late, so I try to get Mattthemaster locked up, didn't work:

    I decide to ask GM to take a screenshot with me, that worked :D

    Next time i'm gonna prolly 2box a thf on gration for the killshot at 1%, no drop kinda sucked...

    pug divine might lol
    i had ark pentashere from long time ago, decided to do random shouts for divine might using an old school strat that paid no regards to job composition. 3hrs later, a bunch of ppl with earrings, including serih and gehddong, and a drg too. I was surprised by how well random ppl (some who haven't even killed a god) did on this AABC.

    back from vacation
    snowboarding alot lately, but started playing a bit. I finish sea, getting a tamas ring b/c raja's ring imo is too situational. I think tamas is the one ring I would not swap out ever on a mage job.

    decided to lvl rdm next, the rdm AF just looks real good and the gear between a rdm and blm compliment eachother very well, unlike my rng and nin.

    also did 4 grations the other day, 3/4 on the drops, but 1 was an HQ shield. I'm also kinda interested in doing Guesh Urvan again for the cape. Alot of people think that cape sucks but I love it for kiting. i don't remember the last time getting hit kiting something on Nin, and even if I did get hit, so what... it's just a crit.

    sea:O
    got sea in 2 weeks b4 christmas started. I was always going back to help others get them from beginning to 5-3, and never really took it all the way to sea. This time I just got greedy and said I wanted sea, and it's really that simple, 5-3 -> 8-2 with no wipes, right before vacation. We did stumble a bit on lightsday vs tonberries on 7-4 but I did keep it alive kiting 2 berries + 10 beetles that I have no idea how I aggroed for a good 10min for people to rez. Stun/bind kiting (even multiple mobs) is fairly easy, makes you wonder why rostrum pumps are even worth what they are these days. Kiting as rng before definately helps, it's way easier to kite stuff in general on blm.

    Also another thing I noticed people going rng/sam for snoll BC when they have /war sub. /sam is pretty useless is all I have to say to that. Give me 1 situation where rng/sam > rng/war, right... well that's useless cuz rng sucks for too many things still anyways, considering shelving it for NIN right now. Maybe I'll lvl PLD, SE really made this job easymode, I used to have a lot more respect for good plds, but now you can't even tell, that job is becoming overpowered too fast.

    Oh ya, finally learned what UFOs are. easy remedy = ES Sleep > /shutdown. Pretty much everything else I saw was a joke and soloable on my 74 blm. I think other than AV, I have nothing more to look forward to in this game. Maybe I'll try a 6-man jorm with nin tank, should be doable with stutter-kiting, then I'll quit until something cool comes out b/c we all knwo that ToAU HNM is serious business... right?

    axeburn on HNMs... :D
    Tried going as rng/whm and fight it like a normal wyrm, that was painful... this is like after 30min:

    war/nin axeburn on hydra did not disappoint however. Wars tanked 50% of time with rampage. I just had to spam cure shibby.

    INT DOWN
    i'm trying to get the latent off my trial katana since I decided I want a weaponskill that i'll probably never use on anything. I decide to pop tunnok at the same time, and sure enough after 1 round of clears, it pops. I'm waiting for zantex to get here for his lohar since he's 69 bst and all of a sudden 2 bsts pop out of nowhere.

    I pull tunnok solo and begin to hold it for 30min as zantex keeps getting lost in ifrit, and these 2 bst mofo call their LS to come, thinking I will die. Of course I don't give it any TP, I don't get hit at all, and we begin killing, taking a break after every TP move to recover.

    This other LS is watching waiting for wipe and eventually become bored, cept this 1 bard.

    after we kill it we have a nice convo, good to know people after 3-4 years of ffxi still haven't learn anything about mobs and TP

    Anyways, the "easy job that everyone thinks require some type of skill when is really based on support and lack of giving mob TP" award goes to NIN

    Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

    breaking latent and trying to pop ulli. I'm pretty sure he's soloable too by some type of job or other.

    soloing these with rng/nin, much more cool than doing it on nin/war

    exp thf played correctly
    /rant after exping with thf

    tired of seeing thf in parties doing sneak attack and trick attack separately, with only 1 or the other to stack on a WS.

    tired of seeing thfs keep meeling after getting 100% tp when sa/ta timers are up

    really there is only 1 good way to play an avg geared thf in exp and still outdmg everyone else:

    activate sata before the pull, land sata. then get your 100%, disengage, activate sata and wait or shoot bolts until SC is ready. Once sata timer is up, you need to activate it asap, don't waste it by meleeing mob, you're not doing much dmg anyways, is not intuitive to disengage mid-battle, but do it anyways... thf is easily the top chain 5 class in the game when played correctly, and perhaps the worst when played incorrectly.

    Also rng = better puller than thf 99% of the time, if you are thf don't pull if there is a rng, evasion means little when a rng can sbind + silent/camo, plus you can save hidama for chain5 and you're good. thf/rng absolutely owns with ability to consistently land bolts for those tiems when you are pulling with sata ready and 90% TP. Also ensures a full DE almost every single time. I'll take this over thf/drk anyday for alternate subs.

    Utsusemi Macro for better readability
    while I've been away from ffxi, I've been doing some programming, that's part of my job. Part of it is being able to comment my code for readability. Here's an example:

    //////////////////////////////////////////////////
    // my code below
    //////////////////////////////////////////////////

    function myfunction(x) {
    code here...
    }

    This makes reading programming languages much easier and more intuitive. To me FFXI is a game about reading and paying attention more than about the visuals. There are some moves where you just have to stare at chat log to know what's going on before it happens (aka dimensional death). For a NIN, you must constantly read the chat log to know how many shadows you have left. I believe there was a mod for counting shadows, but 3rd party mods are illegal in FFXI.

    When a game requires so much reading, it is always good to provide yourself with visual cues inside your log to see what's going on, especially if the fights last over 15minutes (or over 1hr). So I made these macros right before a very long and boring chary fight where I had to all the damage with 0 STR - the other 2 guys were support classes:

    Ni:
    /nin "Utsusemi: Ni" [me]
    /recast "Utsusemi: Ni"
    /recast "Utsusemi: Ichi"
    /wait 1
    /echo -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Ichi:
    /nin "Utsusemi: Ichi" [me]
    /recast "Utsusemi: Ni"
    /recast "Utsusemi: Ichi"
    /wait 3
    /echo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    I now don't have to keep track of exactly how many shadows I just lost or what I just casted. I simply tab to a fullscreen of my log to see if it was an :ichi or a :ni, just for confirmation purposes and see how many shadows were burned since the big line. People get sleepy while tanking, people grab a drink while tanking, people turn around for 1 second to yell at their parents while tanking, so this macro is a very nice way for a 1 second shadow count because of the line delimiters.

    switching gears to lower game delay
    sometimes when ur casting a spell and for whatever reason u get hit, u get this really bad delay b4 u can do that spell again. simply switch ur gear, any gear that makes u blink on the screen, and you will be able to recast right after that blink. One thing to note that your char movement is not controlled by POL but is controlled by your own computer, so u can actually manipulate ur comp to make ur char do things faster. i didn't realize this until i started doing it as nin on accident, but is pretty nice way to get rid of your recast delay.
